Peru for stronger trade ties with India

Peru and India have decided to begin negotiations for a bilateral investment agreement and a joint feasibility study as the first step towards a free trade agreement in their effort to build up strong economic ties between the two countries.

It was during the recent visit of the Minister of Trade and Tourism of Peru, Mr. Eduardo Ferreyros to India when he met the Indian Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr. Anand Sharma and the Minister of State of the same Ministry, Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Mr. Ferreyros brought a letter from the President of Peru, Dr. Alan Garcia, addressed to the President of India, Ms. Pratibha Devisingh Patil stating the strong conviction and interest of the Government of Peru to increase their economic and commercial ties with India, and to establish a strategic relation. Minister Ferreyros also presented the current special trade and investment opportunities in Peru before senior representatives of Indian industry.
 


Mr. Ferreyros promoted Peru as a privileged destination for filming of Bollywood productions in a meeting with cinema producers where he offered a perspective of the vast diversity of cultural and beautiful natural locations. Different scenes filmed in Machu Picchu, one of the new seven wonders of the world, were included in the successful movie “Robot”. Mr. Ferreyros invited Indian entrepreneurs to visit Peru and offered Government support to travel around and look into possible film locations among other facilities.
