Royal Safari Camp, Bajana On The Periphery of Little Rann of Kutch |
|
It is a misnomer; it is not a camp, spread out on a large piece of land with circular huts made of stone blocks with thatched roofs to keep them cool in summer. The huts, all air conditioned, have an attached bath which is as spacious as the hut itself. Though the interior of the hut is painted and furnished the ethnic way with the walls painted with a thin paste of mud and cow dung, the bathrooms, in contrast, are done up with modern fixtures and tiled. Each hut has a place for sitting out facing the garden. Each hut is surrounded by a grove of trees and shrubs looking like a private garden. Stoned pathways lead to each of the huts. Evenings are pleasant with a strong wind blowing from the west. At the centre of the resort is an amphitheatre which offers entertainment like dance performances by tribals. ![]() The resort has a swimming pool for a cool dip after a tiring safari in the Rann. There is a restaurant which serves dishes based on local recipes too. Though the well prepared spinach soup was not something new to my taste buds, what followed did turn out to be something new – a spicy chicken preparation, a taste very different from what I have been used to in north India. I could not resist repeated helpings of the dish. On asking the chef about the recipe, I learnt that it was a local preparation with spices and the cooking had been done in groundnut oil. It tasted so different. Even the garlic ‘naan’ had real garlic aroma and taste. It was prepared with real, fresh garlic paste mixed with local spices. Food at the Royal Safari Camp is commendable. |
