Starwood spreads wings in India

As Starwood continues to grow its luxury brands portfolio, the company claims to be making significant investments to enhance its existing portfolio. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide would be opening more than 50 new hotels in China and India over the next three to five years. With growth fueled by demand for its design-led and luxury brands, the company will unveil 7 of these hotels in India within this year.

“We currently have six of our brands present in India; we are planning to open up the other three brands also very soon. India is a great market with a mixture of clientele from tourists to corporate and India is also a major attraction for tourists abroad,” said Mr. Rajan Bahadur, regional General Manager, Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Key upcoming openings in the region include three new Aloft hotels in primary destinations like Coimbatore, Chandigarh and Ahmedabad, two Four Points by Sheraton in Pune and Vishakhapatnam, a Sheraton in Bangalore and a Le Meridian in Coimbatore by the end of 2011.

Starwood will double its portfolio in India by the end of 2015, with introduction of a ‘W’ hotel in Mumbai by July 2015.

“We make a visitor have the same feeling in a particular brand wherever and whenever he visits it. We are also in the process of giving a face-lift to all our Sheratons in every region,” added Mr. Bahadur.
